HCM-505: Research Methodology in Health
This paper is a part of a requirement for the HCM505 – Research Methodology in Health. The task required in the research is to establish a topic from different topics provided in the guidelines. Also, it involves choosing ten research sources from peer reviewed articles that addresses the topic. From the topics provided, I have chosen “chronic diseases”. From the broad topic, I have chosen to study the risk factors for hypertension in Saudi Arabia and the level of adherence to treatment among the population. This topic provides an understanding of what factors are involved in predisposing the Saudi Arabian population to hypertension. Most importantly it answers the query of how people are responding to treatment to ensure that the disease is prevented. However, the most of the articles involved in the study will address the level of adherence to treatment to solve this problem in the population.

- The first source is peer reviewed article that addresses the link between drug adherence and knowledge among patients in Saudi Arabia. The articles shows that the level of knowledge was poor and patients were not sure of the advantages of consistent medication use which influences non-adherence (Alzahrani et al., 2019).

The research shows that there is a need to enhance lifestyles, diet and physical activity to prevent hypertension among the population.
- This paper is an empirical paper that evaluates the knowledge of physicians and adherence in hypertension management guidelines in Saudi Arabia. According to this research, low level of k knowledge to hypertension treatment guidelines was 18% which influenced poor adherence level (Shnaimer & Gosadi, 2020).
- This is a cross-sectional study that was established by Thirunavukkarasu et al. (2022) to evaluate medication adherence and its underlying factors among hypertensive patients in different primary health centers in Saudi Arabia. The research goes on to suggest the need for diagnosis, treatment and health education on the risk factors in Saudi Arabia.
