Developing the leadership management skills and knowledge essential for your chosen career pathway is likely to be an important contributor for your future career success.
For this assignment you are required to apply your learning in this module to your chosen or aspirational future occupational career pathway.
The intended learning outcomes of the module are assessed by a Portfolio made up of two tasks.
1. Task 1. Structured Essay: Leadership, management, and your future career.
This task requires you to write a structured essay that demonstrates your knowledge of the fundamental concepts that underpin leadership and management in the context of your chosen occupational pathway. (1450 Words)
2. Task 2. Structured Reflection: Better understanding your own leadership and management qualities.
This task requires you to demonstrate an understanding of your own leadership and management qualities. You must use the provided reflective model template to help you systematically analyse how what you have learnt might apply to your future occupational context and help you identify and develop your leadership and management skills. (1400 Words)
Task Briefs:
Task 1. Structured Essay: Leadership, management, and your future career.
This task requires you to write a structured essay that demonstrates your knowledge of the fundamental concepts that underpin leadership and management in the context of your chosen occupational pathway. (1450 Words) (45 Marks)
Instruction:
You should research and identify your chosen/aspirational occupational pathway or specific job that you would like to follow upon leaving university.
Then…
a) Write a brief introduction on your chosen/occupational pathway or job that summarises the key purpose(s) and tasks and explain why the pathway or job interests you as a future career. You are expected to consider issues of ethics, responsibility, and sustainability in relation to personal and vocational motivation, development and outcomes. (150 Words)
b) Critically assess the relationship between leadership and management in the context of your chosen occupation/job. To do this, consider if leadership and management are distinct or interrelated concepts and identify and discuss those leadership and/or management attributes most associated with your chosen occupation. Your assessment must draw from leadership and management theory and academic/research literature to support your findings. (650 Words)
c) Critically assess at least 3 leadership theories and/or styles in the context of your chosen occupation/job. You must, discuss how the theories or styles do or do not apply to your chosen occupation/job and explain why. Your assessment must draw from academic/research literature to support your findings. (650 Words)
Task 2. Structured Reflection: Better understanding your own leadership and management qualities.
This task requires you to demonstrate an understanding of your own leadership and management qualities. You must use the provided reflective model template to help you systematically analyse how what you have learnt might apply to your future occupational context and help you identify and further develop your leadership and management skills. (1400 Words) (45 Marks)
Instruction:
Using the reflective template provided, write a reflective piece that examines any 3 leadership and management models, tools, and activities we have covered in the module that help you to evaluate your personal leadership and management qualities and areas you can identify for future development. You may also draw from wider reading of academic/research literature.
In keeping with a reflective writing style, you may use the first-person narrative for this task but do remember, you must cite and reference your sources.
Presentation of your work:
You should present both tasks using Arial 12-point
1.5 line spacing.
You must present Task 2 using the template provided in the Assessment folder on Blackboard.
You should use the APA 7th Edition for your referencing. Guidance to support this is provided here.

As the University will mark assessments anonymously where possible, include your student roll number and not your name on your assessment. Do not upload links in the submission area, as we cannot access them and therefore cannot mark your work. If you have saved your files on your University of Salford OneDrive, dragging files to the submission area may attach a link instead of the file.

Feedback
You can expect to receive feedback by 4pm on Monday 17th November 2025. Your feedback will be located in the comments section on Blackboard.
You will have the opportunity to receive formative feedback on your work, by presenting a plan for your work during your seminar in Week 4 of the module.

Reassessment arrangements
If you fail your assessment, and are eligible for reassessment, you will need to resubmit on or before Summer 2027 date TBC. You will be able to find the date for resubmission on your module site in Blackboard when published. There is no resubmission if you are on a retake attempt.
For students with accepted exceptional circumstances for absence/non submission, this will be your replacement assessment attempt.
Your Assessment will be the same as the original submission. You will be advised regarding reassessment support sessions following your results.
