What is a Turnitin Report and what does it include?
A Turnitin Report provides two key insights: a Similarity Score showing what percentage of your text matches existing sources (websites, journals, academic papers, and previously submitted work), and an AI Detection Score indicating the likelihood that content was generated by AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude. You’ll receive detailed source links and highlighted matching text.
Is this a subscription service or one-time payment?
We operate on a simple one-time payment model — no subscriptions, no recurring charges, no hidden fees. Purchase reports as you need them, whether it’s a single check or a bulk package. Your credits never expire.

Will my paper be stored in Turnitin’s database?
Absolutely not. Every check we run is configured as “non-repository,” meaning your document is never added to Turnitin’s global database. This ensures that when your supervisor later checks the same paper, it won’t trigger a false 100% match against itself. Your work remains 100% private.
How long are my reports and documents kept?
To protect your privacy, all reports and uploaded documents are automatically deleted from our servers after 24 hours. However, a copy of your report is also sent to your registered email immediately upon generation, so you can download it from there if needed.
Understanding Your Report
What does *% mean in the AI detection report?
In Turnitin AI reports generated after July 16, 2024, an asterisk (*) replaces the percentage when AI content is detected between 1-19%. This indicates low-confidence AI detection where the system cannot provide an exact value. For AI proportions of 0% or 20% and above, the exact percentage is displayed. If your institution doesn’t require 0% AI, a *% result is typically acceptable.
Is your Turnitin check the same as my school’s?
Yes. We use the exact same Turnitin platform and database that universities and institutions worldwide rely on. Your report will show the same similarity scores, source matches, and AI detection results that your supervisor sees.
Are reference lists included in the similarity score?
No. By default, Turnitin automatically excludes reference lists, bibliographies, and works cited pages from the similarity calculation. This aligns with standard practices at most universities and journals, ensuring your citations don’t inflate your plagiarism score.
Why is my Turnitin AI score low but GPTZero shows high AI?
Turnitin employs conservative AI detection standards specifically designed to avoid falsely flagging legitimate student work as AI-generated. This protects students from unfair penalties. Schools aim to discourage complete reliance on AI tools, not penalize students who may have used them for minor assistance. Turnitin’s approach prioritizes fairness over aggressive detection.
Why was I flagged for AI when I didn’t use ChatGPT?
AI detection tools, including Turnitin, aren’t perfect and can produce false positives. Writing assistance tools like Quillbot, Grammarly, or even highly formal writing styles can sometimes trigger AI flags. If this happens, try simplifying complex sentence structures, using more natural language, and varying your vocabulary to make your writing sound more authentically human.
Will my AI score stay at 0% permanently?
Turnitin’s AI detection algorithm is periodically updated and refined. While your report may currently show 0% AI, future system updates could potentially affect how previously submitted documents are analyzed. However, this won’t impact your immediate submission — your report reflects the detection standards at the time of checking.
Technical Requirements
What languages does Turnitin support?
Turnitin’s Similarity Report supports over 30 languages including English, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, and more. However, the AI Detection feature is currently limited to English and Spanish only. Documents in other languages will still receive similarity scores but may not generate AI detection results.
Why did my report generation fail?
Report generation typically fails for two reasons: (1) Your document is written in a language not supported by AI detection, or (2) Your document exceeds Turnitin’s word count limits (minimum 320 words, maximum 29,999 words). If neither applies, try re-uploading your file or contact our support team for assistance.
Can I check a paper already submitted through my school?
If your paper has already been submitted through your school’s Turnitin account, it now exists in their database. Running another check may result in a high similarity score due to self-matching. However, the AI detection portion of your report will still be accurate and unaffected by prior submissions.
